In English we use phrases to ask for something we want politely.

I'd like... =  I would like...  / Can I have...? / Could I have...?

Examples sentences : 

  • I'd like a bottle of water, please.
  • Can I have the bill, please?
  • Could I have the chicken salad, please?

We use Would you like...? for offers (when we want to give something or help someone)

Examples sentences :

  • Would you like a drink?
  • Would you like cheese in your burger?
  • Would you like a cup of tea?

Notes for use of polite request / offer / suggestions :

'Would you like' has the same meaning as 'Do you want' but is a more polite way of offering something!

In English we use the question phrase 'Why don't you / we...?' to make a polite suggestion.

  • Why don't you see a doctor?
  • Why don't you go home and go to bed?
  • Why don't you take the day off?
  • Why don't we get a bottle?

It's getting late, shall we leave soon?늦어지고 있는데, 슬슬 떠날까?
We have an apron, why don't you wear it?앞치마가 있는데, 안 입고 왜?
Shall we get the grated one?그럼 그레이티드로 살까?
I believe I can! Why don't you try helping me a bit?난 된다고 보는데! 그냥 날 좀 도와주는 건 어때?
Or would you like to share half each?아니면 반반 나눌까?
Would you like me to order you two something else?너희 둘 뭔가 다른 거 시켜다줄까?
Shall we try a trick, then?그럼 잔꾀를 부려볼까?
Shall we get a bottle of chardonnay?샤르도네 한 병 할까?
Would you like a packet of 10 or 20, sir?10개비짜리로 하시겠어요, 20개비짜리로 하시겠어요?
Yes sir, what would you like to order?네, 뭘로 드릴까요?

What would you like me to cook for you?뭘 요리해주면 좋을까?
Shall we leave, then?그럼 이제 출발할까?
Would you like me to get us some coffee and muffins?내가 가서 커피랑 머핀 좀 사올까?
I got one big one, shall we get some tomatoes?큰 걸로 했어. 토마토도 좀 살까?

Erm, I was going to ask if you would like to come to Brighton with me tomorrow.음, 내일 나하고 브라이튼에 오고 싶은지 물어보려고 했어.
