Form : ( Be used to / Get used to + pronoun / noun / verb + -ing )

In English we use be used to to talk about things that we have become accustomed to or familiar with and are no longer strange to us.

  • I'm used to getting up at 6am every day.
  • I am used to the noise of the traffic.
  • I was used to living in a small apartment when I lived in Japan.

In English we use get used to to talk about things that we become accustomed to or familiar with over a period of time.

  • I'm slowly getting used to living in London.
  • I'm getting used to working at night.
  • I am getting used to it.

Be used to and get used to can be used in any verb form.

  • I haven't got used to it yet.
  • I'll never get used to it.
  • I wasn't used to living in such a crowded city.

Notes for use of be used to / get used to :

The form of used to in be / get used to doesn't change in questions or negatives.

  • Are you used to it? NOT Are you use to it?

Used to or Be / Get Used to?

  • I used to live in Australia. ( I lived in Australia in the past, but I don't live there now)
  • I'm used to living in London. ( I live in London now and I am accustomed to it)
